Working in Georgia as a foreigner in 2026

A cautious map of employment, freelance and business routes after 2026 reforms.

Check your case. Rules can depend on citizenship, status, activity and effective date. Verify changeable facts with an official source.

Identify your activity

  • Local employment, freelancing, running an individual business and working remotely for a foreign employer can be treated differently.
  • Georgia’s amended labour-migration rules took effect on 1 March 2026 and introduced a formal right-to-work process for covered foreign workers and self-employed foreigners. People who already had active labour-migration registration on 1 March 2026 have a transition deadline to obtain the right to work and the appropriate residence permit by 1 January 2027.
  • A right to work, lawful stay, residence permit and tax registration are separate layers.

Job search

  • Validate language requirements, net versus gross pay, probation, schedule, insurance and termination terms before accepting.
  • Never pay an unofficial fee for a job offer or immigration promise.
